Process of WorkCover Claim:
If you have been injured or become ill because of your work, you should:
Immediately inform your employer about the work-related injury or illness
Seek medical help, hospital / Medical Centre, see a doctor so they can assess your injury and determine treatment for recovery.
Ask the doctor to provide you with a work capacity certificate.
You can start a work injury claim before obtaining a work capacity certificate from your doctor. However, you will need this when submitting the claim.
Proceeding with a Work Cover claim:
If you decide to proceed with your claim, there are a few ways to do this:
Fill in a claim form for your workers’ compensation scheme. You can either do this by filling out a paper workers’ compensation claim form or online. Some schemes allow you to claim by telephone.
The quickest and easiest way is for your employer to make a claim online. Once they have done this, your claims agent will be in touch to get your consent to go ahead with your claim and discuss the next steps.
If your employer is unable to make a claim on your behalf, you can call your claims agent to make a claim.
Initial Workcover Claim Assessment:
Medical opinion is usually sought from your GP or treating doctor when your initial WorkCover claim is being determined.
The GP may be asked to provide a medical report commenting on the cause, diagnosis of your injury, contributing factors to the injury, the prognosis of your injury, and the impact that the injury may have on your work capacity.

Certificates of capacity are essential part of Work Cover assessments.
